Here are some of the books I’ve worked on …
Turnaround by Dr. Dwight Perry. I transformed a paper Dr. Perry had written into a book on Christian ministry leadership. I edited / rewrote the contents supplying additional research / writing where needed. I then formatted the manuscript into a file suitable for publication. Working with my son Hans, we designed a cover for the book. I published the book in paperback form using Amazon’s Create Space publish-on-demand service. I also converted the book to Kindle format, manually editing the html file to correct the hundreds of errors made by Amazon’s automated conversion utility.
You Snooze … You Lose: Thriving In These Turbulent Times by Gerald H. (Jerry) Twombly. I edited / rewrote a manuscript prepared by fund raising guru, Jerry Twombly. I formatted that into a file suitable for publication and then published it in paperback form using Amazon’s Create Space. Although a third party designed the cover, when the cover file failed to meet the printer’s specifications, I worked closely with Amazon’s Create Space and outside vendors to resolve the issues. I also converted the book to Kindle format.
Connect by Dr. Perry. I took this previously published book on sermon preparation (Dr. Perry held the rights) and republished it in paperback and Kindle formats. This involved resolving issues with both the cover file and the interior file, and manually editing the html file to resolve hundreds of issues with the Kindle conversion.
The Easy Bible Volumes One, Two and Three. I created this daily reading Bible to help people experience God and share that experience with the people they love. I chose the scripture passages, paraphrased them, wrote the notes of explanation, created the “devotional” entries, created the questions for discussion and journaling. I designed the daily reading format and published the books in paperback form using Amazon’s Create Space. I created the website and blog to promote the books. I converted the books to Kindle, pdf, mobi and epub e-book formats and offered the books for sale on my own website as well as the Create Space e-store and Amazon.com. I further made the daily readings available as a daily email using AWeber’s autoresponder service. Then I put most of the material found in the daily readings online as an indexed online Bible. I also negotiated rights to use the easy bible trademark.
The Gift of Transformation. I wrote this book about how God transformed our marriage. I self published it using both a traditional printer and a publish-on-demand service. I used a poetic style to write this inspirational life story. It’s difficult to explain; you gotta read it. Kindle version here. But readers have been powerfully impacted by it, and clients have requested that I use this style when writing their books. I don’t know of anybody else that’s using this exact style.
The Find by Pastor Tom Flaherty. I edited / rewrote this novel on creationism.
Principles of Microbiological Troubleshooting in the Industrial Food Processing Environment edited by Dr. Jeff Kornacki. I worked with Dr. Kornacki to prepare this manuscript with the accompanying figures and tables in the format required by the publisher. I don’t specialize in academic books, but I can read a publisher’s guidelines and make sure your manuscript meets them.
Building Unity in the Church of the New Millennium edited by Dr. Dwight Perry. I took this previously published book (Dr. Perry holds the rights), and republished it using Amazon’s publish-on-demand service, Create Space. This was challenging because not only did we need to make changes in the interior file originally created in Quark, software I don’t use; but we also had no cover file. Dr. Perry gave me a physical copy of the book. I scanned the cover, assembled a new cover file, and made dozens of edits to make that cover file suitable for republication. After publishing in paperback, I converted to Kindle which required me to edit 15,716 lines of html code in two different programs.
The New Middle. This is a book I wrote and published in less than 24 hours. I did this to prove that it can be done, and I did it because I didn’t want to spend a great deal of time on this project.
Certified Development Professional by Gerald H. Twombly. I converted a workbook the author had been using in his workshops to a paperback manual. I used Create Space’s cover creator utility to design a cover for the book.
Amazing Faith. I wrote this book with Dr. Thomas A. Shaw. I interviewed Left Behind author Jerry Jenkins, Operation Mobilization founder George Verwer, Love Languages author Dr. Gary Chapman and other Christian leaders to write vignettes about defining moments in their faith. The book was published by Moody Publishers. Joni Eareckson Tada wrote the foreword.
The Blue-Collar Prophet by Tom Stamman. I used Tom’s notes and conversations with Tom to write this book of life experiences and lessons learned. I self published using a traditional printer.
Weathering Storms is the first book I wrote and self published. It contains vignettes and lessons learned from my own life story.
Jesus is the Reason for the Season: Pocket Inspirations. Although I only contributed one short chapter to this book published by Summerside Press, I mention it because I was published alongside Mother Teresa, O. Henry, William Shakespear, J.I. Packer and Charles Dickens.
Moments of Peace in the Wisdom of God. I wrote this devotional book for the Snapdragon Editorial Group, and it was published by Bethany House.
Moments of Peace in the Presence of God for Couples. I was a contributing author for this devotional book published by Bethany House.
A Praying Heart: 365 Devotional Journal. I was a contributing author to this devotional book published by Summerside Press.
Alone in God’s Presence: 365 Devotional Journal. Again I was a contributing author to this devotional book published by Summerside Press.
I’ve written or worked on some books for clients that I can’t talk about here because of confidentiality issues. But these books are representative of the type of work I do. My name does not necessarily need to be on the cover or even in the book. It only appears if we both agree that we want it there.
