“Dwight Clough was a major help when it came time to write and publish my book. His expertise in writing portions resulting from our interview, re-writing some of my writing, editing other parts, and organizing the many pieces into a cohesive tome made it possible to achieve my goal of an attractive, well written book. Dwight was sensitive to suggestions, prompt in his responses, and exhibited a high degree in professional journalism and knowledge of options and sources for publication.

“The actual writing of this book began back in 2002 when Dwight Clough interviewed me for a book he and Tom Shaw were writing for the Moody Bible Institute Alumni Association. At the time it was thought it would consist of brief biographies of several Moody Alumni. Later it was shortened to 15 stories about alumni of whom I was one. Fortunately Dwight saved the material from the longer interview. Dwight mentioned at the time that if I ever wanted to write a book, he would be glad to assist me. During the intervening years I was writing stories of my flying experiences in the jungles of Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia, hoping each would become a chapter in any book I might write.

“In 2014, I contacted Dwight for help in putting this book together. By that time, my wife Margaret had passed away, and I had married again. My wife, Wanda, became a major contributor and encourager, editing some of the stories and doing the final read-through before submitting it to Dwight for the finishing touches.

“In the early stages, Wanda and I drove to Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and met with Dwight. We enjoyed a lovely lunch served to us by his gracious wife, Kim, and met some of their children at the table. At Dwight’s insistence, I told some of the stories that are in this book and answered their questions. During our conversations that day, Dwight asked me why I was writing the book. I told him that first, I wanted my children and grandchildren to know what Margaret and I did as we served together in ministry. But the main purpose would be to demonstrate to God’s people and the world the faithfulness of our God and Savior throughout our lifetimes. Truly His faithfulness reaches to the skies!

“Our prayer is that readers will be encouraged and will glorify our Lord Jesus as they see his faithfulness demonstrated throughout the book.”
Forrest Zander, March, 2015.

Turnaround-front-150x229Turnaround by Dr. Dwight Perry. Good ministries fail. Churches, megachurches, parachurch organizations, and whole denominations can find themselves in crisis or decline even though they are doctrinally sound, spiritually energetic, and divinely commissioned. Or sometimes they plateau. Like the airliner that loses its engines at 35,000 feet, the passengers may be unaware that anything is wrong. But the pilot knows. Something needs to be done very soon, or the flight will come to an unscheduled and unpleasant conclusion. Leaders need to do more than just steer the ship. Though the waters may seem smooth, they need to see the iceberg ahead shrouded in fog. When they do, they need to reverse their engines and rescue their people from calamity. Whether you are a pastor of a local church, a mission’s executive, a denominational leader, or a lay leader on a church or parachurch board, this book was written for you.

What I did: I transformed a paper Dr. Perry had written into a book on Christian ministry leadership. I edited / rewrote the contents supplying additional research / writing where needed. I then formatted the manuscript into a file suitable for publication. Working with my son Hans, we designed a cover for the book. I published the book in paperback form using Amazon’s Create Space publish-on-demand service. I also converted the book to Kindle format, manually editing the html file to correct the hundreds of errors made by Amazon’s automated conversion utility.

You Snooze You Lose

You Snooze … You Lose: Thriving In These Turbulent Times by Gerald H. (Jerry) Twombly. You need this book if …
… you lead an organization that depends partially or completely on donations
… your business or nonprofit has been impacted by the economic downturnRead this book to discover …
… why donations are drying up and what you can do about it
… the new business models that can save your organization
… why mergers could kill you but strategic alliances could save you
… how domestic outsourcing can help you and your employees
… why mega-churches and private schools are in trouble
… nine tsunamis that will rock your worldJerry Twombly’s 3500 clients have included Habitat for Humanity, Focus on the Family, The Salvation Army, Campus Crusade for Christ. Over the course of his career, he has helped nonprofits worldwide to raise over $2 billion.

What I did: I edited / rewrote a manuscript prepared by fund raising guru, Jerry Twombly. I formatted that into a file suitable for publication and then published it in paperback form using Amazon’s Create Space. Although a third party designed the cover, when the cover file failed to meet the printer’s specifications, I worked closely with Amazon’s Create Space and outside vendors to resolve the issues. I also converted the book to Kindle format.

Connect by Dr. Perry.”Dr. Dwight Perry answers the question every modern-day biblical communicator must resolve: ‘How do I effectively connect the life-changing truth of the gospel with a generation that is skeptical and full of doubt?’ With analysis, he provides clear principles and standards that will benefit every preacher. If you desire to connect with and change the hearts of this culture, this book will educate, enlighten and motivate you!” – Pastor John Jenkins, First Baptist Church of Glenarden, Landover, MD”Dr. Dwight Perry’s Connect draws upon his extensive experience as a pastor, scholar, professor and denominational leader to speak to emerging church leaders caught up in postmodern drift. This seminal work is a critically important rationale for absolute truth. Every young church leader–many of whom have been influenced by forces they do not acknowledge–needs to wrestle with this book.” Glen Kehrein, Executive Director, Circle Urban Ministry

What I did: I took this previously published book on sermon preparation (Dr. Perry held the rights) and republished it in paperback and Kindle formats. This involved resolving issues with both the cover file and the interior file, and manually editing the html file to resolve hundreds of issues with the Kindle conversion.

The Easy Bible Volume OneThe Easy Bible Volume TwoThe Easy Bible Volume Three

The Easy Bible Volumes One, Two and Three. Explore the most trusted path of spiritual growth known to humanity: the Bible. We’ve taken the Bible, dusted it off, and made it available in a whole new way, in bite-sized pieces, with notes of explanation, making this the perfect read for someone with no previous Bible experience. In addition, we’ve added words of encouragement for you no matter where you are in your spiritual journey-just starting out, or an old pro. The Bible can be a forbidding book for many. That’s why we’ve taken the language of the Bible and rewritten it for a new generation of readers. And we’ve created conversation starting questions for you and a friend to explore together. Explore … enjoy … share … grow. This is your opportunity to experience God on a whole new level. Faith can be both fragile and precious. And your spiritual journey can take you places you never before imagined.

What I did: I created this daily reading Bible to help people experience God and share that experience with the people they love. I chose the scripture passages, paraphrased them, wrote the notes of explanation, created the “devotional” entries, created the questions for discussion and journaling. I designed the daily reading format and published the books in paperback form using Amazon’s Create Space. I created the website and blog to promote the books. I converted the books to Kindle, pdf, mobi and epub e-book formats and offered the books for sale on my own website as well as the Create Space e-store and Amazon.com. I further made the daily readings available as a daily email using AWeber’s autoresponder service. Then I put most of the material found in the daily readings online as an indexed online Bible. I also negotiated rights to use the easy bible trademark.

The Gift of Transformation

The Gift of Transformation. Some experiences change our lives forever. Those of us who have had a profound experience with God know what it’s like to awaken in a new world where everything has changed. The old dreary depression is lifted, the gnawing anxiety is gone, the people who used to aggravate us suddenly don’t bother us any more. Jesus is here; and though our circumstances may not have changed one bit, we find ourselves surveying the old bullies of our lives with a confident smile. For anyone who has ever struggled with a marriage that isn’t working, for those who feel the lingering pain of abuse, for those who struggle with a life that’s out of control, The Gift of Transformation is a road map to hope.

What I did: I wrote this book about how God transformed our marriage. I self published it using both a traditional printer and a publish-on-demand service. I used a poetic style to write this inspirational life story. It’s difficult to explain; you gotta read it. But readers have been powerfully impacted by it, and clients have requested that I use this style when writing their books. I don’t know of anybody else that’s using this exact style. Building Unity in the Church of the New Millennium edited by Dr. Dwight Perry. In Building Unity in the Church of the New Millennium, Dr. Dwight Perry and twenty other scholars and practitioners address discrimination specifically within the evangelical church. But they do not deal solely with racial discrimination, but also gender, age, physical disability and class discrimination. “Dr. Dwight Perry and a diverse group of gifted contributing authors use great insight and wisdom in dealing with key contemporary issues that threaten unity within the Body of Christ.

What I did: I took this previously published book (Dr. Perry holds the rights), and republished it using Amazon’s publish-on-demand service, Create Space. This was challenging because not only did we need to make changes in the interior file originally created in Quark, software I don’t use; but we also had no cover file. Dr. Perry gave me a physical copy of the book. I scanned the cover, assembled a new cover file, and made dozens of edits to make that cover file suitable for republication. After publishing in paperback, I converted to Kindle which required me to edit 15,716 lines of html code in two different programs.

The New Middle. This is a book I wrote and published in less than 24 hours. I did this to prove that it can be done, and I did it because I didn’t want to spend a great deal of time on this project.

Certified Development Professional

Certified Development Professional by Gerald H. Twombly. I converted a workbook the author had been using in his workshops to a paperback manual. I used Create Space’s cover creator utility to design a cover for the book.

I’ve written or worked on some books for clients that I can’t talk about here because of confidentiality issues. But these books are representative of the type of work I do. My name does not necessarily need to be on the cover or even in the book. It only appears if we both agree that we want it there.
