 “Dwight Clough was a major help when it came time to write and publish my book. His expertise in writing portions resulting from our interview, re-writing some of my writing, editing other parts, and organizing the many pieces into a cohesive tome made it possible to achieve my goal of an attractive, well written book. Dwight was sensitive to suggestions, prompt in his responses, and exhibited a high degree in professional journalism and knowledge of options and sources for publication. “The actual writing of this book began back in 2002 when Dwight Clough interviewed me for a book he and Tom Shaw were writing for the Moody Bible Institute Alumni Association. At the time it was thought it would consist of brief biographies of several Moody Alumni. Later it was shortened to 15 stories about alumni of whom I was one. Fortunately Dwight saved the material from the longer interview. Dwight mentioned at the time that if I ever wanted to write a book, he would be glad to assist me. During the intervening years I was writing stories of my flying experiences in the jungles of Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia, hoping each would become a chapter in any book I might write. “In 2014, I contacted Dwight for help in putting this book together. By that time, my wife Margaret had passed away, and I had married again. My wife, Wanda, became a major contributor and encourager, editing some of the stories and doing the final read-through before submitting it to Dwight for the finishing touches. “In the early stages, Wanda and I drove to Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and met with Dwight. We enjoyed a lovely lunch served to us by his gracious wife, Kim, and met some of their children at the table. At Dwight’s insistence, I told some of the stories that are in this book and answered their questions. During our conversations that day, Dwight asked me why I was writing the book. I told him that first, I wanted my children and grandchildren to know what Margaret and I did as we served together in ministry. But the main purpose would be to demonstrate to God’s people and the world the faithfulness of our God and Savior throughout our lifetimes. I published the book in paperback form using Amazon’s Create Space publish-on-demand service. I also converted the book to Kindle format, manually editing the html file to correct the hundreds of errors made by Amazon’s automated conversion utility. |

Although a third party designed the cover, when the cover file failed to meet the printer’s specifications, I worked closely with Amazon’s Create Space and outside vendors to resolve the issues. I also converted the book to Kindle format. |

I converted the books to Kindle, pdf, mobi and epub e-book formats and offered the books for sale on my own website as well as the Create Space e-store and Amazon.com. I further made the daily readings available as a daily email using AWeber’s autoresponder service. Then I put most of the material found in the daily readings online as an indexed online Bible. I also negotiated rights to use the easy bible trademark. |

I used a poetic style to write this inspirational life story. It’s difficult to explain; you gotta read it. Building Unity in the Church of the New Millennium edited by Dr. Dwight Perry. In Building Unity in the Church of the New Millennium, Dr. Dwight Perry and twenty other scholars and practitioners address discrimination specifically within the evangelical church. But they do not deal solely with racial discrimination, but also gender, age, physical disability and class discrimination. “Dr. Dwight Perry and a diverse group of gifted contributing authors use great insight and wisdom in dealing with key contemporary issues that threaten unity within the Body of Christ. What I did: I took this previously published book (Dr. Perry holds the rights), and republished it using Amazon’s publish-on-demand service, Create Space. This was challenging because not only did we need to make changes in the interior file originally created in Quark, software I don’t use; but we also had no cover file. Dr. Perry gave me a physical copy of the book. I scanned the cover, assembled a new cover file, and made dozens of edits to make that cover file suitable for republication. After publishing in paperback, I converted to Kindle which required me to edit 15,716 lines of html code in two different programs. |

Amazing Faith. I wrote this book with Dr. Thomas A. Shaw. I interviewed Left Behind author Jerry Jenkins, Operation Mobilization founder George Verwer, Love Languages author Dr. Gary Chapman and other Christian leaders to write vignettes about defining moments in their faith. The book was published by Moody Publishers. Joni Eareckson Tada wrote the foreword.
The Blue-Collar Prophet by Tom Stamman. I used Tom’s notes and conversations with Tom to write this book of life experiences and lessons learned. I self published using a traditional printer.
Weathering Storms is the first book I wrote and self published. It contains vignettes and lessons learned from my own life story.
The Find
Principles of Microbiological Troubleshooting in the Industrial Food Processing Environment edited by Dr. Jeff Kornacki. I worked with Dr. Kornacki to prepare this manuscript with the accompanying figures and tables in the format required by the publisher. I don’t specialize in academic books, but I can read a publisher’s guidelines and make sure your manuscript meets them.
